Team Lead – TCM Sports Medicine​​

Mr. Zhou Rui was granted the Specialist of Sports Medicine qualification in 2023 and is registered with the New Zealand Chinese Medicine Council (No. 1631). He is currently the first and only CMC Specialist in this field in New Zealand, specialising in sports injuries and musculoskeletal problems. He has a unique interdisciplinary education background in Chinese Medicine, Western Medicine, Sports Medicine, and Sports Science. His career focuses on the treatment of various sports injuries such as rotator cuff injuries, tennis elbow, TFCC injuries, torn meniscus, patellar tendinitis, and Achilles tendinitis, as well as handling challenging musculoskeletal cases such as frozen shoulder, cervical spondylosis, herniated disc, and wrist pain. He also assists in the management of chronic musculoskeletal pain, post-operative rehabilitation, and pre-operative treatment. Mr. Zhou Rui is currently providing medical services to a large number of elite athletes and organisations in New Zealand, including NZ Tennis, Auckland Tennis, NZ Badminton, Black Dragon, NZ Fencing, and NZ Figure Skating.

Kim Kang

Integrated Rehabilitation Specialist

Kim is a CMCNZ-registered acupuncturist and rehabilitation therapist with over 10 years of experience in China and New Zealand. He integrates acupuncture, tuina, and targeted exercise therapy with evidence-informed rehabilitation strategies. Kim works with patients recovering from musculoskeletal pain, sports injuries, and postural issues, ensuring each plan is personalised, safe, and aligned with the patient’s activity goals.

Thomas Tong

Senior Acupuncturist & Rehabilitation Therapist

TherapistCMCNZ-Registered Acupuncturist | China-Registered TCM Practitioner | Rehabilitation Therapist Thomas Tong is a CMCNZ-registered acupuncturist in New Zealand, as well as a China-registered Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner and rehabilitation therapist. He graduated from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Before relocating to New Zealand, Thomas worked for many years in leading orthopaedic specialty hospitals in China. He served at the Sichuan Provincial TCM Sports Medicine Centre, where he practised as a clinician and physical therapist, and also contributed to team-doctor and rehabilitation training. Through this work, he developed extensive experience in the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries. In New Zealand, Thomas joined the country’s specialist TCM sports medicine practice, where he focuses on sports injury management, post-injury functional recovery, and long-term musculoskeletal care. His clinical approach integrates acupuncture with soft-tissue and joint-based therapies, including minimally invasive needle techniques, myofascial and fascial release methods, traditional Chinese manual therapy, joint mobilisation, Myofascial Neuromuscular Therapy (MNT), and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF). His clinical interests include sports-related soft-tissue injuries, post-fracture complications, chronic neck, shoulder, back and lower-limb pain, and myofascial system disorders.

David Chen

Senior Acupuncturist & Tuina Practitioner

​With nearly 25 years of practice, David is a CMCNZ-registered acupuncturist trained in both China and New Zealand. He combines traditional Chinese methods such as tuina and Chinese medical manipulation and bone setting with modern rehabilitation concepts. David collaborates closely with other health professionals to provide safe, tailored care for patients managing pain, recovering from injury, or improving mobility.
